Always be ready to make your defense to anyone who demands from you an accounting for the hope that is in you yet do it with gentleness and reverence.

There is a quote skipping about the internet that says in a shamanic society when the shaman or medicine person is approached by a person who is sad or dispirited, the shaman asks 4 questions: "When did you stop dancing? When did you stop singing? When did you stop being enchanted by stories? When did you stop finding comfort in the sweet territory of silence? " For those who follow Christ, hope enters when we dance and sing even in the midst of trouble. It enters when we listen to stories and when we rest rather than worry in the quiet times. It is not the dance, the song, the story or the quiet that is the hope within us. To follow Christ means that the cross is not something behind us and life is getting better and better. To follow Christ means that the cross in all its brokenness is ever before us. Our hope is born not of our stubborn will to be happy but of a Christ who redefines what it means to live.

Lord God, may we dance this day even without our feet. Amen.
