Besides all this, between you and us a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who might want to pass from here to you cannot do so, and no one can cross from there to us.’

I believe there is a heaven and hell. The future shape of it is God's business. I am more aware of the present realities of the great chasm that has been fixed between us. Men and women. Young and old. Dark and light. East and west. Republican and Democrat. Rich and poor. We can speak of celebrating diversity but it does little more than flling a gossemer thread over a canyon of contentiousness. It takes real work, high motivation and deep sacrifice to build a bridge. We are using all our resources to maintain the chasm. I believe there is a heaven and hell. One was given to us as a gift, the other is what we have built from what we were given. We stare at a hellish chasm with broken pieces of heaven in our hands. In the broken pieces there is a face of hope.
