“Come to me, all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

"Learn from me." Jesus says. One of the aspects of the way Jesus' moved through his mission that continues to teach me is how he focused on one person without losing his awareness of the immediate concerns or his overall mission. I find when I am overloaded with details and tasks, especially when I feel the gap between the immediate task and the overriding purpose, the way of Jesus bids me to focus on the face, the person in front of me. The "to-do" list still lingers in my peripheral vision but the person before me is a restful task if only in the sense that I know for certain that the task of bearing another's burden is one I cannot do alone. There is no moment in my walk with Jesus that I am more earnest than when I pray, "Help me not to screw this up."

Your burden is the world, Lord. May I share this way with you, one person at a time. Amen.
