You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. I am giving you these commands so that you may love one another.

Fruit that will last! Fruit that has the unlucky destiny of landing in the drawer of my refrigerator becomes a host for mold or shrivels beyond recognition. I always have great intentions of "eating more fruit" but I give in to the other not-so-healthy food cravings. The good fruit ends its useful journey due to my neglect. The fruit would have a better life if I had actual eaten it and let the healthy stuff become a part of me. I have more to give when I am well-connected to the one who can create a good thing in me and through me. God chooses to make love available to all through us.

Holy God, help us to do what you created us to do - love one another. Amen.
